Beauty Self-Care The Virtuous Woman

A DevaCurl Review

DevaCurl Review-Infograph

After being a natural for 7 years, in May, its not that often that will try other product lines other than those that have become staples for myself and my 12 year old daughter.  However, I decided to try the DevaCurl products last fall.  Even after reading the ever popular book “Curly Girl” by the company’s creator, Lorraine Massey, I was reluctant to try the products b/c of the mixed reviews that I’ve read over the years from other type 4 curly hair ladies.  I have been using the products for about 8 months now and to my surprise, I have had successful experience with a lot of the products.

I started my DevaCurl journey by watching several tutorials created by other natural ladies with similar hair types (links provided below).  After watching several reviews and tutorials, I thought these products might be worth a try.  I was especially interested after discovering their new line of products for “Super Curly” hair, designed for women who have tightly/coily curly hair women like myself. I purchased DevaCurl No Poo Decadence, DevaCurl One Condtiion Decadence, & DevaCurl SuperCream Styler. I received the DeveaCurl B’Leave-in and DevaTowel as a gift.  My new regime with the products was preceded with a DevaCut.  I absolutely love my new hair cut and how the shape was defined, which has grown out to a lovely diamond shaped crown of curls.   Although I was doubtful about the products, I love the moisture benefits  and definition that these products provide for my curls. I can’t live without my DevaTowel, its perfect for taking out just enough moisture and product from wet hair, without leave my hair dry and frizzy.

The only negatives about the products, for me are the prices.  The price point for the styling products are very steep, considering that you only get 5 -6 oz of product for both of the stlyers listed above.  If you are a super curly lady like me, you know that it takes a lot of product to define and maintain our curls.  I will finish the  products I currently have but I will not purchase these products on a regular basis due to the expense.  I will repurchase these products only during great sales at Ulta or Target.  I will definitely continue my DevaCut trims every 5-6 months.

Here’s a few techniques that I’ve used with these products from 2 of my favorite vloggers, Naptural85 & Tia Kirby.  Visit their vlogs, they do a wonderful job sharing techniques and reviews.
