On my playlist this summer is one of the most anticipated CD for Neo Soul lovers like myself, Voyager by Moonchild. Their Neo Soul sound is undeniable and is probably the best CD I’ve heard in this genre the last couple of years. I was actually late in discovering this talented trio, first hearing tracks from their previous CD, Please Rewind, in the fall of 2016. Their newest, LP, Voyager was actually released on May 27th and I had the wonderful pleasure of not only hearing Moonchild live on the release date but I also got to meet them. I was so excited to meet them and thank them for making beautiful music.
So let me tell you a little more about the group. Moonchild is comprised of three tremendously talented musicians, Amber Navran, Andris Mattson, and Max Bryk. Amber is an amazing artist, who ability to play the saxophone, clarinet, flute, and soulfully belt out notes as beautifully as the notes from her instruments. Both band mates, Andris and Max are excellent musicians as well and I thoroughly enjoy their solos and complementing arrangements, masterfully capturing both the jazz and soul sound that blend to make the magic of Neo Soul.
If you have not had a chance to check out Moonchild, you definitely should check them out. You could easily start with either CD but Voyager is my personal favorite. I truly hope that word of mouth brings this group much success and that they continue creating great music. They definitely have earned a loyal fan here.
