Don’t Settle For Safe…by Sarah Jakes Roberts

don't settle for safe

I read this book in about 2 weeks, and that’s a really fast read for me during the end of the school year.  I’ve already purchased it for a co-worker and consistently recommended it to the ladies in my life.  I loved it so much that I’m currently reading it again, with my teenage daughter.

On a personal note, this book has really helped me, as I am going through several challenging situations at the moment.  Sarah Jakes Roberts really spoke to fully getting on with life, no matter the circumstances.  Now, I’m not talking about just brushing things under a carpet, but really looking at the emotions and thoughts that occur after facing challenges and hurtful experiences.  I must say, before reading this book, I really thought I was totally over several childhood experiences that left me broken and hurt.  However, during this current season of challenges and hurtful experiences in my career, I found that a few old habits and feelings began to resurface in my mind, in turn, igniting old behaviors as well. The thought provoking narratives and practical solutions in this book, helped me dig deep and figure out why these old behaviors were resurfacing and how to correct my responses.

Mrs. Roberts really did a wonderful job of encouraging readers explore their own personal growth. Through the transparency of her own struggles, she encourages readers to stop taking the easy way out and choose to fully share our most vulnerable areas. It was a reminder to not let any insecurities or reservations hinder your ability share your life and God-given talents with the world.  The world is waiting on you.

Thanks Mrs. Roberts.
